GetZips exists because ZIP and postal codes carry more information than most lookup tools bother to show.
A ZIP or postal code is really a compressed answer to several questions at once: where is this, what time is it there, how big is the area, and what's it called. Most lookup tools answer one of those. GetZips tries to answer all of them from a single search box, then goes further for the places people search most, with a full profile page — map, guide, and figures included.
Our core postal code dataset — postal codes, place names, regions, and coordinates — is built from GeoNames' open postal code database (CC-BY 4.0), supplemented for the United States with land-area figures from the US Census Bureau's official Gazetteer files. Time zones are computed from each location's coordinates. Population figures, where shown, are drawn from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey estimates.
Coverage varies by country because the underlying source data does — some national postal services publish detailed, granular data; others publish only partial or regional-level data. Where we don't have a figure, we show that honestly rather than guess.
Every postal code in our dataset is searchable, but not every one has a dedicated profile page yet — those are built individually, starting with the ZIP codes people look up most often. If a code doesn't have a profile yet, search still returns its core data instantly; it just won't open its own page.
